When asked about Mike Leech's decision making to lock a player in a closet because of a concussion, Lou Holtz shrugged and went on about how that's what you were supposed to do, and we were idiots for not knowing that. If the saying "like father, like son" applies here, the South Florida Bulls will be looking for a new head coach again next year.

Air Force's Troy Calhoun was on Tennessee's list, but the coach released a statement through the university Thursday that read, "We look forward to coaching and being a part of the Air Force Academy team both on and off the field in 2010." Calhoun was one of the Vols' finalists when Kiffin was hired.

ReplyDeleteDavid Cutcliffe announced this morning that he will be staying at Duke "for a long time" and withdrew his name from consideration for the Tennessee head coaching position. The three front runners at this point must be Derek Dooley, Al Golden, and interim head coach Kippy Brown. Brown, at this point, is in my opinion the overall front runner. I don't see a lot of success coming from Louisiana Tech or Temple.
ReplyDeleteAl Golden posted up a 9-4 record at Temple with a bowl appearance and loss to UCLA. They had huge wins against the likes of Navy and Miami of Ohio. Those were the huge wins. Not going to cut it at Tennessee. Tennessee is looking for a full makeover, not a band aid.
Derek Dooley has led the Louisiana Tech program to a 4-8 season, and tied for 6th in the WAC, a conference that has has shown little opposition to Boise State besides being bad enough to keep Boise State from reaching the National Championship even undefeated. LT was stomped in the early season by a rebuilding Auburn and run heavy Navy, however had respectful losses to Boise (45-35) and LSU (24-16). Regardless, Derek Dooley is no Lane Kiffin, and is not the caliber of coach that Mike Hamilton is looking for, nor the coach that Tennessee's bleeding program desperately needs.
