NFL Playoffs Round 2 Matchups Game 1 Cowboys Vikings

My Pick: Minnesota

How lucky can we get? Not only are Joe Buck and Troy Aikman announcing the game but we get to hear about Favre vs. the Cowboys. Yes, I know Dallas is the hot team heading into this huge matchup with Minnesota in the early game on Sunday. However, can you really trust Romo and company to put up on offense against the Vikings D in a road playoff game? Was the game in New Orleans a month ago a sign of things to come or will Romo revert back to being unable to win big games. Yes, I know Dallas beat Philadelphia two weeks in a row. Big Deal. Philadelphia has no running game and plays little defense.

This will be Dallas' first road test in the playoffs since the botched field goal in Seattle in three years ago and I don't believe they are tough enough to get by a very good Minnesota team that features a dominate front four on defense.

Minnesota 34
Dallas 23

  1. My Pick: Vikings

Well I hate to agree with you three games in a row but I cannot go against my gut about this one. I will just go ahead and say it now, but i am a bit biased against Dallas. With all of that behind me I really like the Vikings this week for a few reasons.
    1. Adrian Peterson. Dallas stopped the dynamic Eagles offense 2 weeks in a row but they played a 1 dimensional team. The Vikings are run first, gun second team. Yes they have Favre, but they have Peterson. Hes the best Running Back in the NFL. We know it. Dallas knows it. And Brad Childress knows it. Don't be surprised if he gets 40 touches. He is the perfect complement to Favre who is a hall of fame quarterback. You have heard the Favre 0-3 record vs Dallas in the playoffs by now but consider this. Dallas hasnt won a playoff game since 96. That is when Favre was losing to Dallas. A cowboy team with the likes of Smith, Irvin, and most importantly TROY AIKMEN. If you think Dallas has the same talent now your just plain dumb. Both defenses are dynamic and put pressure on the opposing quarterback. Both offenses have strong rushing games (Peterson and Taylor vs. Barber, Jones, and Choice). But the real battle comes down to my favorite position: QB. Favre vs Romo. And its no contest in experience. This game has all the makings of a classic which I think it will be. I have the Vikings grinding out a tough win 31-28 and advancing to the NFC championship against Kurt Warners red birds.

  2. My Pick: Vikings

I'm going to agree with everybody here, I want to see the old man win.

This arguably could be the best match of the post-season, Vikings coming off a great season with new leadership under the man himself, Brett Farve; Dallas coming back from a two win sweep of NFC division rivals, Philadelphia.

Dallas clearly showed that they can shut down on defense the last two weeks, but it is correct to say they faced a one-dimensional offense. Philly's Westbrook and McCoy did very little in the running game, and the scoreboard showed it. Dallas has a strong defense and a good offense, as much as I hate admitting that.

Vikings have two strong running backs...and one of them is the best in the league. If Dallas' plans on winning, they better be mentally and physically prepared for Peterson, because Philly's running core isn't even comparable.

Romo is overrated…and finds a way to choke when there is a lot on the line. Whether its this game, or the big game, I don't think Romo will hold a trophy.

Brett Farve on the other hand, is the man. He's having the season we all want him to have, and his leadership has shown on the Vikings record the whole season.

If both teams play like they should, this is going to be an amazing game.

    Minnesota 34, Dallas 21.
