NFL Playoffs Round 2 Matchups Game 2 Jets Chargers

My Pick: San Diego

I think by now everyone knows what the Chargers are. An elite team in the National Football League (end Ron Jaworski impression). The Chargers have won 11 straight heading into this matchup with the surprising Jets. The bigger question heading into this game in my opinion is what are the NY Jets? Up until the Jets beat the previously undefeated Colts, whom didn't play their starters including Peyton Manning after the first offensive series of the second half, they were 7-7 and coming off a terrible last minute lost at home to Atlanta. Rex Ryan likes to talk about how great the Jets defense is which ranks tops in the league. However, great defenses (e.g. '00 Ravens, '85 Bears) stop opposing offenses on the last drives on games, something the Jets were unable to do on more then one occasion (Miami on MNF, Atlanta, etc.).

For the Jets to win this game not only will the defense need to come up big, unlike last week when Cedric Benson ran all over them for 169 yards, but Mark Sanchez will need to make plays because I believe San Diego will be able to slow down the Jets running game. Last week Sanchez played great mostly because of a wonderfully called game by offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. However, this week Sanchez will be forced into more throwing downs which will be troublesome for the Jets. The Jets are playing with house money hear, no one expected them to get this far, however San Diego will be too much to overcome.

San Diego 24
NY Jets 13

  1. My Pick: Chargers

The Bolts are the better team. They have a better team across the board. The Jets have a rookie QB in Sanchez who without a doubt will be successful in his career. But history does not lie. Rookie QBs have always struggled in the playoffs and that will not change. The Chargers defense will force Sanchez into uncomfortable situations (3rd and more than 2). With a ball hungry defense I expect this game to be decided early on turnovers and a great red zone offense led by Wolfpack QB Philip Rivers. Rex Ryan its time to shut up and go back to the drawing board(IHOP all you can eat pancakes for 5$) Bolts roll 38 13

  4. first off..to both of you clowns - congrats on doing something...respect for starting a blog...

second...dinka althogh I like your observations about the Chargers/Jets matchup I was distracted by your typos...

third...would anyone not love to have Rex Ryan as their Coach? Like Lane and Monte Kiffin - Rob and Rex Ryan should team to form the most dominant defensive coaching staff in the NFL. On Lane Kiffin - what a douche.

fourth. In the infamous words of The Governator "GO Chargers"

fifth. FACT. the electric glide is the hottest thing on the internet since Paris Hilton's sex tape

  5. I read the defense. I read the defense. I read the defense. I read the defense. LT style, Electric glide...

I just have a few more points I would like to make about the Chargers Jets game. Lets talk field position. Steve Weatherford is still not 100% and after watching the interesting punting game, one must believe that without Weatherford, Rivers will be working with a short field all game. The Bolts put up 28 a game and will be ready to punch it in multiple times against this Jets Defense that just can't stop talking about being the favorites in the playoffs.
The Jets do get to show off their Number 1 overall defense, giving up only 15 points per game. But just take into consideration what traveling across the country can do to your team. In the Colts first loss of the season (to the Jets) Peyton had put together 15 points in the first half alone. And against the likes of some playoff contending teams they gave up plenty of points. In november they gave up 30 to Miami, 24 to Jacksonville, and 31 to New England. The Chargers will get their points, but can the Jets keep up with just a running game?
Another key is going to be injuries. The Jets had to play last week, and now they have questionable defensive necesities such as Howard Green, Shaun Ellis, Bart Scott, and David Harris. All 4 are questionable.
Rex I love your attitude and confidence but after you receive this beatdown and formal welcoming to the NFL, maybe you will keep your trash-talking in the lockerroom. Belichick has 3 rings in the past decade and you don't hear him spitting up useless comments about being overall favorites in the playoffs, not even when they were... oh whats the word... undefeated. Take a seat Rex.
